About this video:
Exit signs and emergency lighting are crucial components in a building’s life safety system. They provide a guided egress path during emergencies, like as a fire or power outage. They also help minimize panic and confusion during an emergency, which can be critical in ensuring a safe and orderly evacuation.
The ComSOP inspection requirements include the following regarding exit signs and emergency lighting:
- Inspect for the presence of emergency lighting systems.
- Inspect for exit signs at all exits and check for independent power sources like batteries.
- Inspect for the presence of directional signs where the exit location is not obvious.
This video demonstrates an inspection of exit sign and emergency lighting in a hotel. Some of the items demonstrated are beyond the scope of the ComSOP. Inspectors may choose exceed to the standard.
