Introduction to Commercial Property Inspections

Want to learn how to inspect commercial buildings and win jobs with confidence? From essential business and workflow practices to inspecting roofs, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, exteriors and sites, life safety elements, and commercial kitchens, we’ll cover it all. Plus, you’ll gain hands-on experience inspecting a university campus.

This three-day training class is a great fit for all experience levels. Those new to commercial property inspections will learn how to inspect commercial building systems and navigate the commercial real estate market. Experienced inspectors will find valuable takeaways to fine-tune their inspections and business practices. Students will also gain hands-on experience through a mock inspection inspecting a university campus.

Preview the Mock Inspection

This hands-on inspection reinforces a systematic approach to assessing both individual buildings and multi-building properties, giving you the opportunity to apply what you learned in class to real-world conditions.

Some of the inspection elements include:

  • Low-slope and steep-slope roofs
  • Roof and property drainage components
  • HVAC equipment and controls
  • Water heating equipment
  • Structural components
  • Restrooms and plumbing fixtures
  • Interior finishes and layouts
  • Exterior envelope and fenestration (i.e., windows, glazing, and doors)
  • Site topography, parking areas, and exterior grading

The class concludes with hands-on training. You’ll inspect the university’s historic masonry buildings, including the primary systems, components, and conditions you can expect to encounter on your own inspection jobs.
