Hands-On Field Training: Inspecting a Bar-Restaurant

Apartment on top, bar and restaurant in the middle, basement below. Classic mixed-use. Join us to inspect your neighborhood sports bar.

During this one-day field training, you’ll gain hands-on experience inspecting a mixed-use building. This begins as the bread-and-butter inspection for most commercial property inspectors. After a few, it becomes second nature and a reliable revenue stream when you’re charging commercial-level fees.

You’ll complete the full inspection process, practicing each step of a professional workflow. We’ll start with a real-world scenario: the client call, the property research, setting a fee, and drafting a proposal that reflects the true value of your expertise. Then, you’ll gain hands-on experience inspecting the property inside and out.

What to Expect On-Site

  • Work through the client intake process, including a mock client call and creating an inspection fee and proposal
  • Identify property conditions, discuss approaches, and understand buildings and their systems in real-time with the instructor
  • See firsthand common issues in commercial building systems
  • Key considerations when booking restaurant and mixed-use property inspections
  • Inspect hood systems, exhaust ventilation, and other cooking area elements
  • Inspect plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and roofing systems
  • Inspect building structure and balcony
  • Inspect exterior and shared elements affecting both the commercial space and upstairs apartment (life safety, fire safety elements, safe egress, drainage, etc.)
  • Begin drafting your final report, with one-on-one instructor review available for final draft at later date

Ideal for inspectors at all experience levels who want to build confidence with commercial buildings and the variety of systems found in restaurants and mixed-use properties. You’ll go behind the scenes of an operating sports bar to see firsthand the inspection points that matter most, and what your clients need to know when buying or leasing one.
