Section 6.5.10 Attic Ventilation and Insulation of the ComSOP states inspectors are required to inspect the insulation in unfinished spaces. This applies to commercial warehouses where insulation may be loose and exposed and relates to protecting the thermal envelope of the building.
Commercial property inspectors should thoroughly scan the underside of roof decks and identify indications of loose insulation, physical damage to insulation, and compromised vapor barrier films that protect the insulation. Inadequate conditions can allow moisture infiltration into the roof deck system and lead to extensive damage. These types of issues are common in warehouse and industrial settings where goods are stored at heights and machinery is used for material handling.
