Overview
Introduction to Fire Doors
Learn about the purpose of fire doors and their importance in building and life safety in commercial buildings. Understand basic concepts, including fire door ratings, common fire door locations in commercial buildings, fire door types and components, and the various codes and standards used for fire door installation, maintenance, and inspection.
This course closely reviews the ComSOP International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Fire Doors. This includes discussions of the purpose, key terminology, limitations, inspection frequency requirements, and practical information necessary to use the standard effectively. Learn about the construction, installation, and key components of swinging doors, dual-leaf duals, sliding doors, and rolling fire doors, as well as the main closing means, closing devices, and release devices inspectors will come across.
Fire Door Inspection Procedure
The fire door inspection procedure consists of 3-parts: 1) visual inspection, 2) operational check, and 3) simulation (drop) test. This course teaches each of these steps individually. Key components and conditions that compromise the integrity of a fire door and allow the passage of smoke and fire in a building are thoroughly discussed. A review of the most common fire door issues and deficiencies is provided.
Fire Door Inspection Reporting
Learn about the tools and resources inspectors can use in the fire door inspection and reporting process, such as life safety drawing, fire door identifiers, and reporting schedules. A list of the commonly required items a report must contain is provided as well as downloadable resources including inspection checklists, reporting forms, and inspection agreement.
