Course Description

This 3-day course reviews commercial property systems and related components, including the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structure and roofing, for the most commonly inspected commercial building types, while highlighting the major differences when compared to residential properties.

This course will also review methodology for inspection pricing/fees and report writing, and is taught in accordance with the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Properties (ComSOP).

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • identify and inspect commercial property HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structure, and roofing systems and related components for the most commonly inspected commercial building types;
  • describe to your client defects observed at those systems and components, including assembling reports and authoring summaries based on work completed by a specialty consultant; and
  • competitively bid commercial inspection projects.

This course is open to all students. You do not need to be a member of CCPIA to attend; however, we recommend that students be familiar with the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Properties (ComSOP) prior to attending this course by completing CCPIA’s Online Standards of Practice Course and Online Code of Ethics Course. These are business management courses. Successful completion is essential to starting and operating a commercial property inspection business and becoming CCPIA-certified.

This course is designed for students who have a background in home inspection, property management or facilities management, and people in the commercial construction trades.
