CCPIA Videos - Certified Commercial Property Inspectors Association

About this video:

Backflow preventers are addressed in Section 6.5.7 Plumbing of the ComSOP. It states that inspectors should verify the presence of a back-flow prevention device if, in the inspector’s opinion, a cross-connection could occur between the water-distribution system and non-potable water or private source. Some inspectors may choose to exceed the ComSOP requirements by evaluating its visible condition, such as tamper-proof cages, and checking for inspection tags from the AHJ.

Backflow preventers may be located either inside or outside the building. In regions not susceptible to freezing temperatures, they are commonly installed outdoors within tamper-proof cages to prevent theft.
